FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Our coffee is ready to use right away for filter, we would recommend waiting 5 to 7 days after the roast date if planning to use as espresso, this is to allow the coffee to rest (degas) and improve its sweetness and body. If you’ve received whole beans then grind the amount needed to the correct size for your brewing method, otherwise the pre-selected size of ground beans are good-to-go!

  • Most grinders come with either a guide or some pre-listed markings as to what application the coffee is to be used for, otherwise this handy guide can help (bear in mind you may need to experiment with a few variables, ie time and temperature to get your best tasting cup, but this should get you in the ball park)

Grind - Fine - 0.3mm particle (Fine sugar) - Espresso

Grind - Medium Fine - 0.5mm (Table Salt) - Stovetop, Aeropress

    Grind - Medium - 0.75mm (Sand) - V60, Chemex, Drip Filter

Grind - Coarse - 1mm (Sea Salt) - French Press, Percolator

Grind - Extra Coarse - 1.5mm particle (Rock Salt) - Cold Brew

  • Whole beans will tend to stay fresher for longer, some were between 7-14 days.

Ground coffee will be best between 3-7 days.

While coffee has a decent shelf life, its ‘best before’ window is relatively small. We would always advise consuming your coffee within a week, but freshly roasted beans can be aged a bit longer if you plan on using them in your espresso (7-10 days from roast date)

That said; don’t worry too much if you’re a little outside the recommended ‘ideal’ window, it will still taste great!

  • We keep our coffee in airtight containers, away from light and heat, and suggest you do the same.

We wouldn’t recommend the fridge or freezer, as this will introduce moisture into the coffee.

Although there’s nothing to stop you doing that (and it will probably be fine) for best results we think a flip top jar and a kitchen cupboard does a perfectly good job of keeping your beans fresh.

  • Our coffee will generally arrive to you rested 2-3 days. If you’ve received ground coffee, we recommend using it straight away as per our ‘fresh guidelines’ (see FAQ above)

If you’re receiving whole beans then its ready to use on filter as soon as you get it.

We would recommend resting the coffee for 7-10 days (from roast date) if brewing it as espresso, however if you’re impatient (like we are) then it can be used immediately, just bear in mind that fresher coffee on espresso will be more volatile, less consistent and may introduce some unexpected notes.
